New to grocery store apps?  We’ve done a little research and we’ve found three apps that make grocery shopping easier, more efficient, and just plain fun!

Simplify grocery shopping with Out of Milk. If you can’t remember what’s in your pantry, then this app is for you! Create and share lists with family and friends and keep track of what you already have in the pantry. Available for iPhone, Android and PC.

Grocery IQ. Add items to your grocery list by either typing them in or add items with your voice or by scanning items’ barcodes. Yup, just go through your pantry and fridge and scan the barcodes. Fun! Like the aforementioned app, Grocery IQ also syncs your lists with family or friend’s smart devices. Grocery iQ is available for iOS or Android.

Fooducate. Make better, healthier food choices with Fooducate. Scan an item and watch as this app (using a vast database, scientific algorithms, and a grading system developed by dieticians and concerned parents) provides simple, concise explanations as to why an item is healthy or not, while offering alternative healthier choices to the item you scanned. Available for iOS or Android.

Mini Muesli Muffins

Naturally sweetened with applesauce instead sugar, and combined with your favourite muesli mix and spices, these mini muffins are healthy little snacks to get your day going in the right direction. Eat for breakfast, pack them in your child’s lunch box, or serve as an afternoon snack. We like putting them on wooden sticks and serving artfully for afternoon tea alongside glasses of ice cold lemonade, but these would also be great for bake sales or a clever, and healthy alternative Halloween treat.   (Makes about 8-10 muffins)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons mixed spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger, optional
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 cups muesli

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF and line 2 muffin sheets with paper liners.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the apple sauce, eggs and vanilla. Add the cinnamon, mixed spice, ginger, baking powder and muesli; stir until mixed together well. (more…)
