The Lindo’s Group of Companies (referred to as “we,” “our,” or “us”) values your privacy and is committed to complying with Bermuda’s Personal Information Protection Act 2016 (PIPA). This notice explains how and why we use security cameras on our premises.
Why We Use Security Cameras
We use security cameras to:
- Ensure the safety and security of customers, employees, and visitors.
- Deter and detect theft, vandalism, and other unlawful activities.
- Protect our property and assets.
What Information We Collect
Our security cameras may collect:
- Visual images and video footage of individuals within or near our premises.
- Activities or movements captured within the field of view of the cameras.
Please note that our security cameras do not record audio.
Locations of Security Cameras
Cameras are installed in key areas, such as:
- Store entrances and exits.
- Sales floors.
- Check out registers.
- Parking areas.
- Loading docks and storage areas.
Cameras are not installed in areas where individuals have a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as restrooms.
How We Use and Protect the Information
- The information collected by security cameras is used solely for the purposes stated above.
- Access to footage is restricted to authorized personnel who require it for legitimate purposes.
- We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to safeguard the information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.
- Retention of Footage Footage is retained for a limited period, typically 30 days, unless it is required for an ongoing investigation or legal proceedings.
- Sharing of Information We may share security camera footage with:
- Law enforcement agencies, where required by law or for the investigation of suspected criminal activity.
- Third-party service providers who assist us with security camera operations, subject to confidentiality obligations.
Your Rights
Under PIPA, you have the right to:
- Request access to personal information we hold about you, including security camera footage (subject to applicable exemptions). Any request must specify the date, time, location (i.e. where in the store) and the purpose of the request.
- Request corrections to inaccurate personal information.
- Lodge a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner if you believe your rights under PIPA have been violated.
