Newman’s Own is a food company started in the nineteen-eighties by Paul Newman, a highly regarded film actor. Most shoppers have seen Newman’s Own in the condiments section, recognizable due to the founder’s caricature, prominently featured on the label; and many pick it up in the knowledge that 100 percent of the profits go to registered charities.
Newman’s Own now offers us an example of his savvy corporate diversification: Fig Newmans, a wheat and dairy-free version of the well-known treat, made with organic figs. All the delicious fig fruit filling, is packed inside a soft, plant-based cookie.
