Summer is slowly receding into the distance and, although most of us enjoyed ourselves, a lot of us are ready for a change. Our youngsters will probably have a different point of view, though, because it’s time for BACK TO SCHOOL!
Cheer up you lot; Just think of all the cool stuff you can get! The equipment, like scholastic materials, backpacks and the like; and what used to be my favourite part – the endlessly inventive school lunches I brought from home!
What can I tell you? Not counting Math classes, lunch was the high point of my day!

Here’s our take on healthy and nutritious
school lunches and snacks:



Children are in school for a large part of each day during the school year so it’s important their lunch box contains the right foods they need for stamina and energy.
♥ Lean Protein 25-30%
Builds strong muscles, metabolizes slowly
and satiates appetite longer
Good choices:
• Roasted Turkey • Chicken
• Ham • Beef • Tofu
• Hard-boiled Eggs
• Fish – Salmon or Tuna
♥ Complex Carbs 30-40%
Provide slow, even energy for long periods of time
Good choices:
• Whole Wheat & Whole Grain
Muffins, Breads, Crackers
• Crunchy veggies and fruits
• Beans and legumes

♥ Healthy Fat 30-40%
Our brains are made of 60% fat and healthy fats provide the fuel brains need to stay alert and healthy
Good choices:
• Nuts • Nut Butters • Cheese
• Yogurt
